Wireless headphones are quickly becoming the  norm.  In fact, new iPhone models no longer include a headphone jack. Is it time to retire your old headphones and invest in a pair of AirPods?

AirPods are Apple's take on the wireless headphone. They are small and unobtrusive yet pack a surprising five hours of battery life. While five hours doesn't seem like much, you won't need to charge them very often because they come with a small carrying case that can charge the headphones on the go, allowing them to last an additional 24 hours. On top of just being wireless, they also include unique features like Siri and automatically pausing your music when you take them out of your ears. They aren't just for music either. They include a quality microphone for phone calls which actively cancels out background noise.

In the past wireless technology has been frustrating to deal with but AirPods is changing that. You can connect AirPods to your iPhone with just the click of a button. Even better, once you pair them to your phone, they will automatically be set up with your Mac and iPad too.

While AirPods do have many significant advantages, they are not perfect. First, if you are not an Apple user, then they are not for you. With the lack of an iPhone, they are frustrating to use and lose most of their great features. Second, they cost $159. While they do provide excellent audio quality, you can buy wired headphones of similar quality for significantly less.

Are AirPods right for me? If you want the convenience of wireless headphones, have an iPhone, and $159 to spare then AirPods are perfect for you. However, if you are not willing to put that kind of money into headphones, there are plenty of less expensive, wired headphones that will work perfectly fine with the new iPhone, as long as you use a converter. In fact, the headphones that come free with the iPhone are sufficient for most situations.
