1. Introduction

The SmartThings hub is a smart home hub that allows you connect all your smart home devices together and control them from a central location such as the SmartThings app. Since it supports Zigbee compatible devices, you can also connect IKEA Tradfri light bulbs to it. This guide will show you how to add an IKEA Tradfri light bulb to SmartThings.

2. Add IKEA Tradfri Light Bulb to SmartThings

To complete the following steps, you will need both your IKEA Tradfri light bulb and SmartThings hub in close proximity of each other.

You can set up multiple light bulbs at the same but they all need to be within close proximity of the SmartThings hub.

Prepare the Light Bulb for Setup

For easier setup, install the light bulb in an easy to move lamp first. Once it has been connected to your SmartThings hub, the light bulb can be relocated into the fixture you prefer.

1. Make sure your lamp is turned off.
2. Remove the existing light bulb.
3. Install the IKEA Tradfri light bulb.If the light bulb was already linked with a smart home system before, you will need to reset it by turning the light on and off six times in a row.
4. Place the light bulb within an inch of the SmartThings hub.
5. Switch over to your phone or tablet.Only turn your lamp on after you start detecting devices with the SmartThings app.

Add the Light Bulb to SmartThings

6. Launch the SmartThings app on your phone or tablet.
   

6. Tap the plus sign to add a new device.
   

6. Select Add device from the pop-up menu.
   

6. Collapse the Samsung category with the arrow at the top right then scroll down to all the other brands.
   

6. Select IKEA from the brands list, then Lighting and Start.
   

6. If you have multiple SmartThings hubs, select the one you want to connect the light bulb to and tap Next.
   

6. Choose the room where the light bulb is going to be installed in and tap Next.
   

6. Turn on your light bulb and wait for it to be detected.
7. Once the light bulb is connected select Done.
