Find out how to check the types of audio files you are using with your system. This can help determine if the file type is compatible.

 

2. iTunes

To determine an audio file type in iTunes:

Use the iTunes search to find the desired track then find the file type using either of these options:

  1. In the Kind column, note the file type.
  2. If the is not visible, go to the Edit > View Options. In the window that appears, check Kind and then click OK. You might need to scroll right to see the new column)

3. Windows Media Player

To determine an audio file type in Windows Media Player:

Locate the track using the search function in Windows Media Player (available in version 11 and newer). If the column titled "Type" is visible, determine what is listed in this column in for the track, otherwise right-click on the track, select Properties, and determine what is listed at the end of the Location file path
